Some Ways of How Kpop Changed Me

Standard

Sorry I have been so quiet for the past couple of days, but I have been so tired!

And here all I had was nice posts about kpop, some silly, a few serious, but now we are going to get deep and controversial. Well…maybe not too controversial, but depending where you stand on some of these views, who knows, it might be.

Kpop. It seems simple, right? It’s Korean Pop. It’s like regular pop, just Korean. It shouldn’t change you that much.

But I disagree. It changed me so much, I am light-years away from where I used to be.

Let me paint you a picture of the person I was: My parents were very traditional, and raised me to have very traditional views. I was a good, little Christian girl. And for the most part, I still am, and I’m not ashamed of it.

Junior year I didn’t know what a blowjob was.

I never dated.

I still have never been kissed.

And all my views I assumed from the stereotypical old Christian views.

Now. Senior year, I’m introduced to kpop. Come college, I am a different person.

Now you can argue it was college that changed me. Or my friends. Or just growing up, but I believe kpop influenced all of this. It set the standard for how I was growing and changing.

And here is how I changed, in no particular order:

does anyone even remember this? it feels so long ago–

1.  More open to homosexual relationships and personas

Now this can sound a little strange, given that Korea is very traditional and years behind where even the USA or, hell, Europe are in regards to homosexuals and their relationships. But let’s face it. Skinship ruins everything. And ships. Oh, those ships, fueled by the skinship of those two or three members. Yes, maybe we picture they are gay, that there is something more. Why? Because we crave it. It made me realize it is okay to like someone of the same gender. Why not? Everyone is human. And, come on, Taehyung and Jungkook of BTS would be cute together! And that made me…

The fanfiction is mine, but the cover is not

2. More open to fanfiction
Honestly, I always wrote fanfiction, I just didn’t know it. But when I was growing up, there was a stigma, and still kind of is, against fanfiction. Now, fanfiction is great. It helps the writer by writing everyday, thus improving their writing, and just makes them so much better as a writer. Fanfiction is great. Who cares if it isn’t your material? Who ever said you need to sell your writing to be a good writer? (btw if you want to read that taekook fic come here and I will love you especially if you are the 600th sub!)

3. Became a better writer

See the above for why. Because, yes, I did write fanfiction.

(these next two I didn’t want to put a picture for. Let’s try to keep it PG…or PG-13)

4.  More open to sex before marriage

I was a traditionalist. I saw it as wrong. And, heck, I would judge anyone who did it before marriage. But…I soon realized it’s not my right to judge. It may not be ideal for me (or maybe it will be, I don’t know yet) but it could be good for someone else. And how is this kpop related? Have you read fanfiction? Smut, man. Lots and lots of smut.

5.  This one is embarrassing..

Because I wrote smut in my fanfiction I had to figure out how sex worked. Kpop helped me figure out how to have proper sex. Hetero and homo…

6.  Got me back into dancing

I love following a routine when I dance. Kpop is honestly perfect for that because they all have their own dances.

7. Continues to help save me from my depression

This one is really deep and I may make a whole post out of this one. Stay tuned if I do.

Off the top of my head, this is all I can think of. Seven ways doesn’t seem like a lot, but to me, it is. Kpop changed my life for the better. And I’m thankful it did.

Thank you, kpop.
